DESIREE presented to Europe’s fuel cell and hydrogen community at EFCF 2026

The DESIREE project was represented by project partners BOSAL and CENER at the European Fuel Cell Forum (EFCF) 2026, one of the leading international meetings dedicated to fuel cells, electrolysers and hydrogen technologies. Held in Lucerne, Switzerland, the event brought together around 450 participants, including researchers, technology developers and industry representatives from across the sector, providing an excellent opportunity to showcase the project to a highly specialised audience.
Jorith Massa, Innovation Engineer at BOSAL, engaged with attendees, including researchers, technology developers and industry stakeholders interested in the future of high-temperature electrolysis. During the forum, he discussed DESIREE’s work on the development of an advanced 40 kW multi-stack SOEL prototype designed to enable more efficient renewable hydrogen production by improving the efficiency, durability and system integration of Solid Oxide Electrolyser (SOEL) technology.
The project received a very positive response from participants, who showed particular interest in its ambition to improve the efficiency, durability and scalability of renewable hydrogen production through advanced Solid Oxide Electrolyser (SOEL) technologies. The consortium’s collaborative approach, bringing together leading industrial and research organisations from across Europe, was also well received.

“The discussions confirmed the continued interest in innovative technologies that can improve efficiency, reliability and scalability across the hydrogen sector“, said Jorith Massa. “It was particularly valuable to exchange views with experts working on complementary technologies and discuss how research outcomes can be translated into industrial applications“.
The event was also attended by fellow DESIREE team members Paula Ciaurriz and Gonzalo Jiménez from project coordinator CENER, Werneri Huhtinen from VTT and Olivier Amsellem from Genvia. Bringing together representatives from four project partners provided an opportunity to discuss technical developments, exchange knowledge and reinforce existing collaborations across the consortium.
DESIREE was also featured during the conference’s technical programme, where Paula Ciaurriz from CENER referenced DESIREE during her presentation “Scale-up of Solid Oxide Cell Fabrication: From Laboratory Optimization to Pre-industrial Manufacturing“. She highlighted DESIREE as the next step towards scaling up advanced cell infiltration technologies from laboratory to pre-industrial manufacturing.

The event also enabled valuable networking with experts working on complementary technologies and European initiatives. These exchanges reinforced the relevance of the technological challenges that DESIREE is addressing, confirmed the growing interest in innovative solutions for high-temperature electrolysis and helped identify potential opportunities for future collaboration.
Europe’s leading event for solid oxide technologies
The European Fuel Cell Forum is recognised as one of the most important international meeting points for the fuel cell, electrolyser and hydrogen sectors. Its 2026 edition focused on the latest scientific and technological developments in solid oxide fuel cells (SOFC), solid oxide electrolysers (SOE) and related electrochemical energy conversion technologies, providing an ideal platform for technical exchange and collaboration.
